The Framingham Reservoir No. 3 Dam and Gatehouse is a historic waterworks facility in Framingham, Massachusetts. This structure was built in 1876-78 as an expansion to Boston’s municipal water supply. The reservoir is the largest of the three Framingham reservoirs that were built at that time throughout the Sudbury River watershed. Today, the reservoir is used as an emergency water source and storage option. The water in this photo was recently reintroduced to the reservoir; the water level had been drained well below average levels by the dam’s management in an attempt to control populations of the invasive water millfoil. As of 1990, the dam had been part of the National Register of Historic Places.
